I replaced the cabin filter over the weekend with STP. I had the same bunching problem. The Purolator/Puralator(?) that I replaced it with before slid in perfectly. I will look for the Purolator next time.

Unhappy Air Filter replacement

I'm a little embarrassed about this and and am speaking the obvious, but..be very careful when changing the air filter not to allow even the first speck of dirt go down into the throttle body. I replaced the air filter over the weekend. I was very careful to clean all parts, etc. I replaced the air filter a little over a year ago, yet felt the need to inspect and replace because we have had a lot of road construction and dust to drive thru. Though the filter still looked fine, with all the effort to take apart and inspect, I went ahead and replaced. Long story, I was on my way to the store and all the sudden --bing-bing-the CEL came on and then got a REDUCED POWER message. ugh. Limped home, took everything apart, reinspected, to no avail. Towed to dealer. They found a rubber scrap in the throttle body. I can only speculate how that got there--loose rubber flashing from the new filter?? $100+ dollars wasted on a situation that I might have been able to prevent. Live and learn.

I plan on keeping mine for a long time so I bought a $40 K&N. I usually change air filter every year or year and a half, somewhere around 15,000 miles so after 3or 4 filter changes the K&N breaks even. Just my opinion, have used K&N for 25+ years and really like them.

If anyone wants a oil free lifetime filter, check out the AEM* Dryflow filters..

That is what GMPP uses in my CAI box..

What's the procedure to change the air filter? Just picked up a new purolator today. I saw the sticky but my ss is different.
