•Insert a flat object, with a thin edge, into the notch located below the remote alarm button and separate the bottom half from the top half of the transmitter.
•Remove the battery from the transmitter.

•Install the battery into the transmitter with the positive side of the battery facing up.
•Snap the front and back half of the transmitter together.
•Ensure the transmitter halves are tight to prevent moisture from intruding into the transmitter.

And be EXTRA careful with the little "spring" type metal piece that holds the battery in place. They have been known to break off.

The procedure is also covered in the .......... Owners Manual! ie: p 2-7 of the 2008 manual
"To replace the battery in the RKE transmitter:
1. Separate the halves of the transmitter with a flat,
thin object inserted into the notch on the side.
2. Remove the old battery. Do not use a metal object.
3. Insert the new battery, positive side facing up.
Replace with a CR2032 or equivalent battery.
4. Put the transmitter back together tightly."

GM left a couple of steps out.

after you separate the the halves, remove the circuit board then gently PUSH the old battery out of the "cage". DO NOT try to pull the battery "up n' out" DO NOT apply ANY force to the "cage" itself.
