Battery Replacement

Battery Replacement
My 2007 HHR LS will have been on the road 4 years in August. I am contemplating replacing the battery on a precautionary basis.
What I would like to know is what will definitely happen when the battery is replaced. My HHR is bone stock with no options. Are there any procedures which might have to be followed in order to restore previously selected functions, or does the system revert to factory defaults when power is restored?

I replaced the battery in my 2006 last fall. In case you do not know, the battery is located in the rear compartment with the spare tire. I did not to anything special except replace the battery. I do not remember having to reset the radio buttons/settings or clock (maybe I did but I am having a senior moment).

The battery in my 06 died Tuesday. The car just didn't start..the remote didn't work. I ended up putting a trickle charger on the battery overnight and it started with the SES light on. I took the car to my local mechanic who found no error codes other than those associated with a dead battery and saw that the battery's life had ended. He installed a new Delco battery. All my radio station setting were stall all there.
What was strange, was that I was having doubts about the battery because in Florida, batteries seem to suddenly croak around the five year mark. The heat gets to them.

Though I have had no battery problems with my 2007, I too am thinking I should replace it, just because of its age. Because its in back, out of sight, and not easily accessible it will need to be a 'maintenance free' battery. My question, is are there any significantly higher capacity batteries out there, that will fit?

This thread reminds me of a friend years ago, freaking out when he saw me touch both the Pos and Neg terminals of my car battery at the same time, with my bare hands. He expected me to go up in flames I think.
