special type battery

HHR battery has the external vent tube, because it is INSIDE the car..

Just took over a 2006 HHR. They said the rotors on the front of the car are bad how much trouble is it to replace them?

You should start your own thread. Asking about rotors in a thread about batteries will get lost.

They are easy to replace, but if you have to ask, it might be above your skill level.

I know there have been a few problems (actually I'd call them symptoms) crop up, which seem to be generated by a low battery that is on the verge of dying. And that seems to be the norm with a lot of vehicles as they have become more dependent on computer based controls.

Ahhh for the good old days of changing points and condenser and setting the dwell and timing every six months or so!! Things were so much better then - getting 20,000 miles out of tires was fantastic - paint that faded or turned chalky after 3 years in the sun. We sure do got it rough now. (sarcasm again).
When I bought my first car a 32 Ford 3 window coupe gas was expensive $0.12 a gal.

Most batteries are vented, even some sealed ones have speacial resealable vents.

Most batteries produce gas and have to be vented. If the battery is inside the car the vent needs to be put outside to get the explosive hydrogen gas out of the car.

Glass mat batteries are sealed but even ones like Optimas that can be mounted upside down and on their side they have pressure relief valves that can release gas if needed and reseal. It is not common for them to vent but if overcharged they can do so as not to explode the case.

So even if a battery claims to be sealed use caution and learn if it is really sealed. Many claim to be but really are not 100% sealed.

Best to stick to a vented battery in a enclosed car just to be safe. I have seen a battery blow up in the interior of a 72 Vette and it was not pretty. Amazing but not pretty.

Ok so I'm contemplating changing out the battery. Looking at mine I don't see this "vent".

Can someone fill me in a little more on this, perhaps describe what this vent should look like?

Also, if anyone has recently replaced a battery please let me know the part no.?

Here's a picture of a HHR battery. The vent tube is the gray line on the right side of the pic. It goes from the top of the battery through a rubber grommet hole in the floor by the battery. (a least it's supposed to)
