Nice! I just installed a drop in K&N filter in the factory air box!

I did that for about 2 or 3 years, but I hated having to pull the whole box and take out the screws just to clean the filter, which is also a lot of extra wear & tear on the air hose. With Florida basically having heavy pollen seasons in both spring and fall, I like to clean the filter around mid May, and again around mid November. It's so much easier to just unscrew that one hose clamp now!!! Don't know that it was worth $300, but don't regret it either

I did have a K&N air box on Oldblue, two screws and a hose clamp to remove the washable filter.
As for the wooly worm hose, I’ve replaced that with metal dryer vent hose. Much better!

Unfortunately, even that gets worn out with enough remove / re-attach cycles. My dryer vent duct has a hole in it near the intake where it split at a seam. Trying to see if I can figure out a more permanent fix that won't cost much more than another piece of dryer vent!

Duct tape, if want to worry about it. Not a big deal, the air from the wheel well is a bit cooler than under the hood.

Not really worried about it, but supposedly, holes in the duct can create chaotic airflow that disrupts the engine's ability to measure and ingest air accurately, which can then lead to inconsistent air-fuel mixtures...

Don't know where you heard that. The filter would calm that down

O'reilly & Autozone.... probably just trying to get more sales. That would be my thinking as well, & even the temp difference between the wheel well air & the engine air isn't huge especially since the hole is about as far from the engine as it can be while in the engine compartment, which is also why I'm not really worried about it.
