The axel has the stub shaft with cup seal already installed, you will have to remove the old stub from the transmission. I’ve used vise grips and a pry bar, a quick movement should pop it out.

The trick is a sudden motion to get the spring clip to release the stub . It’s easier if the opening of the ring is at 6 o’clock that way the solid area is down in the groove
