Car wash recommendations?

I have used the mr clean autodry filtered sprayer, and it actually does work. You do need to replace the filter often with harder water. Also a quick application of spray detailer should get rid of fresh spots.
The key to no water spots is washing in shade, doing one part at a time, drying with a large microfiber towel before any water evaporates. Just lay the towel down and pat dry, try to resist wiping.
If I have to wash it hot I do the roof first (towards the front), then hood, front fenders and bumper, then each side, then the back, then wheels and running boards etc, drying as I go. You only need to soak up the drops, streaking should dry clear. And open and close the rear hatch, it likes to hold drips.
There is a reason why silver is such a popular car color.

I too use a Porter Cable Orbiter and it is a great detailer tool. The key to working smart not harder to get a great shine.

I just spent the afternoon cleaning my wheels, interior, and used half a bottle of Meguiar's Quik Detailer, which left a residue all over (didn't notice that until I got out into the sun again). The bottle says if it doesn't come off easy, it's time for a wax.
Man, those plastic-clad wheels shine when they're clean!
As soon as I order some stuff, Balerion is getting super clean, clayed, and waxed.

Bottom line is that you won't accomplish jack with hand-applied products. For real paint correction, you need a D/A buffer like the Griots 6". I use Meguiars Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, Blackfire Wet Diamond, and top it off with EZ Glaze 2.0. Unless you correct your paint with a compound and polish, all you're doing is putting a shine over all the swirls, etc. It's all in the prep.
As far as a wash goes, try Optimum No Rinse. Leave absolutely NO water spots and you paint glows.
