I didn't notice anyone posting how much that K&N or GM Performance swap out cost.

I'm not familiar with GM Performance Products. I assume there is a website or something.

If I had a choice I buy a kit from that guy that put on the old school Edlebrock set up.

What the heck is holding the air box down up against the firewall? I replaced the air filter 50,000 miles ago and it seemed so easy. I have it loose, but something is keeping the back in place and I don't see what it is. The manual says loosen PVC, I have the map sensor out, the air supply tube, oil filler cap off, but I am unable to pull the box off the engine block.

Did you go to the first posting of this thread and do a double-check of the process? Don't forget the clamp for the FI intake that needs to be loosened just in front of the MAF sensor - if I remember right I had to pull that rubber tube off the front of the airbox once I loosened the clamp.

The 3 grommets that hold it in place could be a bit sticky - I usually throw some silicone grease on them when reassembling things. It makes it easier to take it apart later.

I did look at the first page. What it was There are two stantions in the back of the air box and one was really in place and I wasn't pulling on it hard enough to get the air box out. It was about 90 degrees in my garage and I was getting hot, sweaty and irratable trying to do something that should be a two minute job. I had a sticky on the inside saying I replaced it at 37K miles and now I have 82K miles. The air filter in there still looked good. All back together now.

Old Lar- You need some fans or something..

I have added 60" industrial ceiling fans, keeping things much more comfortable.

Even a box fan would help ya..

Glad you got it worked out. Hopefully you got a chance to put some silicone grease or spray on the hold down points to make it easier for the next filter replacement.

Cheers

Front left grommet

I have a 09 LS with a 2.2 engine and there was no way I was going to get that front left grommet off without breaking the plastic air box arm, I removed the torx screw and the air box came right off. Once I had the air box out I took a good look at that torx screw and grommet which was nearly impossible to remove and push through the plastic air box bracket, maybe the 09's and newer are slightly different. The torx screw seems to be captive in the grommet and if you pull it out its a pain to get back in. Putting grease, silicone grease or something helps getting the dried out back grommets to go on and off easier.

I've got an 08 2LT and that front left grommet you speak of is split on mine. Evidently, someone in the past just cut the grommet horizontally to allow the airbox to come off easier. The "bracket" sits on what is left of the grommet and the airbox doesn't move. So far it hasn't caused any problems, so I don't see the need to replace it........ yet.

Props on the write up. I wasn't sure I wanted to attempt this on my own, but the directions are great and it took me all of 5-10 minutes to complete.. thank you..
