Smile What about resetting oil 100% indicator

The instructions were great, the comments were great and the pictures gave me the information so precise, that i did it my self.

Now, my oil life indicator still shows 20%, how do i get it back to 100%.
Vagley i remember someone telling my you press on either the gas or break 3 times and the oil indicator goes to 100%. Tried that but it does not work.
how do i reset?

Thanks again for the great pictures of the oil change.

I don't know for sure if its the same for all model years, but here's what I do on my 2007 HHR:

1. Turn the ignition to RUN, but don't start the engine.
2. Press and hold the INFO and RESET buttons at the same time.
3. The display should read "OIL LIFE RESET"
4. Press and hold the RESET button until the display shows "ACKNOWLEDGED"
5. Then turn the key to the OFF position.

This should reset the Oil Life system to 100%. Hope it works for you. I don't think it should be any different for you, but then again you never know.

Very nice presentation!

Gave me the desire and ability to change my own oil. Now im done how do i reset the percentage indicator on the read out. The read out is showing that the oil life left is 30% and i want to set it back to 100%. Some one told me to depress the brake or gasfeed 3 times. Did that but nothing happened. How do i reset?

Just changed mine on my 2010 for the first time. Any one else notice that the oil pan
has a low spot/belly in it? I had the ride on a level surface which meant that the little
bit of oil in that area could not drain unless you elevate the front end a little. It had stopped running out but once elevated, a few more ounces came out.

Not a big deal but, sure seems to point to not the greatest engineering on GM's part. If you change your oil hot right after the engine has been running, probably means nothing but, if you let it sit over night then get up to start the process the next day, may mean that over time, the crud that settles in that area will stay there.

Best oil changes are done with warmed up oil anyhow, & while draining it is good to remove the oil filter cartridge to allow all the oil to come out easier. & my pan is flat on bottom..

Plus, I added a magnetic drain plug to mine..

Anyone know if the 2.0 turbo engine uses the same size filter wrench/socket? I see one listed on Amazon for the 2.2 for around $6 but doesn't indicate it is right for the 2.0 engine. Thanks.

It's the same block so it should be the same.

I've always been kind of iffy about changing oil in cars mainly because of where the oil filter sits. My sister had a Kia Sephia that her husband changed the oil in. He, however, never tightened the oil filter up because of the location and so it leaked until I had to shove my arm down in there to tighten it up more. I like where the Chevy HHR's oil filter sits, that it is easy to get to. Here I have a Crown Victoria with a big plastic undercarriage protector and nineteen inch long arms to where I couldn't unscrew the oil filter.

I know this is a stupid question, but does one dispose of used oil at a mechanic's like a Jiffy Lube or Sun Tire, etc.? Is it free to dispose used oil there? I ask this because my father is big on taking used oil and dumping it directly on the ground. He doesn't give a crap about the environment. He also smashes florescent lights in the garbage, not caring that there is mercury in the bulb. So for a person whose father who changed the oil and then dumped the oil directly on the ground ever since he was young, it's hard to know where is a safe place to dump the oil that won't hurt the environment. I remember asking him one time, "Dad, where can I go to dump the oil?" "Dump it here on the ground, it won't hurt nothing!"

And here the oil spill in the gulf to him is "nothing".
