I wouldn't see why you couldn't, they just lift straight out. Just place a rag or something under the element to catch the drips.

I did my 1st one at 2300 miles. With the Mobil 1 I think I will let the DIC tell me when. One thing I wont do is change oil and NOT do the filter. I get WIX filters, a great brand for about $4.90. Doesnt make sense to not change it too.

I didn't think the DIC was accurate on synthetic oil. Is there a setting for it?

No, I dont think there is. I will probably go 4k on this one. I need to balance my oldschool 3000 mile interval mindset with, hey dude its a waste of money thinking. For the $30 its worth the piece of mind. Now if I can just get more than 250 miles out of a tank of gas.

Why would you think there is a "setting for it"???? Don't tell me you're one of the people that think GM has a switch for everything .

But seriously, you have an absolute wrong misconception of the OLI. Reading the explanation in your Owners Manual, may help.....or one of the many other threads discussing oil changes, intervals, filters, etc.

I don't trust the computer anyway. I understand it monitors conditions, etc., but seriously, does anyone really trust it? It's like the mileage information, the only accurate way to do it is to take note of your fill ups and miles.
thanks for the reply

I change my oil twice a year (late April and late October) with synthetic oil.

Last summer I had Castrol Syntec in the motor and went 8100 miles on the oil. DIC was at 16% when I changed the oil. The oil was analyzed by Blackstone labs and came back with a fantastic report and said I could have easily gone 9,000 miles.

I have another sample in right now from my last oil change. Should have that report sometime this week.

Black Rose, very interesting on the oil quality. Keep us posted on that next sample. I drive about 25K miles/year and use mobile1 every 10K. I just received my 32mm socket so I changed my filter after 4K miles. Quick and simple, I didn't know if it would be a problem with oil leaking but since the filter is where it is, it's easy to do! THANKS

Beware of this. I do not know what brand of filter this is but it came from a quick lube service shop. It is stamped "Made In China", so I would be leary of using any stamped this way. This filter took out a $5000 engine in 300 miles. The engine now has a 6 inch hole in the block.
