How long can engine coolant/antifreeze last?
I recently purchased a 2009 Chevy HHR with only 18,700 miles. Since the vehicle is now 8-9 years old, is the antifreeze still okay? What mileage would you recommend that I change it given it's age?

Welcome - at 18K miles, it sounds like you picked up a cream-puff. Congrats.
Assuming it has DEXCOOL antifreeze in it, and DEXCOOL has a 5 year life, and that you don't know when it was changed last, tis time to change it.

X2. Also, check all other fluids and take a look at rubber bushings and such, they dont like sitting for extended periods and average yearly mileage of around 2,000 sounds like alot of sitting was happening. Are the tires good too? Nice find, BTW!

Do Not go cheap in the thermostat! Get the correct one per this thread!
