Loose Wheels x 2

Loose Wheels x 2
A few years back, i was heading to a buddies (who lives 3 hours away) to his Super Bowl Party.
About half way there, I heard and felt what sounded like i was on the rumble strips. Turns out three of the five lug studs had sheared off and the tire was violently wobbling. At 70 mph, that's something you don't want to experience!
Fast forward to today.
On my way out of town, I noticed someone pulling along side of me. Rolling down my window, the driver told me that my left rear tire was a little wobbly.
(First time it was the passenger rear tire).
Luckily I was only a few minutes from home so I turned around and pulled into my garage.
Upon taking off the hub cap, my fear was realized:two sheared lug studs.
Seriously?
During the winter I run stockers w/the caps and whenever I change wheels I ALWAYS do a 100 mile check on the lugs.
During the warm months, I check after a few hundred after the initial check, but during the winter it's harder.
Is this some sort of flaw or do I really need to check the lugs more frequently during the winter?

correct woody.
and as for torquing them, i go to 100 pounds, and then give it a little "UHNG" for good measure.
sleeper, i also (always) tighten in a star pattern.
maybe i'm not supposed to have 'nice' wheels?

well if it's defective studs, considering that now TWO wheels have had this happen, maybe i need to look into replacing them all?
