Like Woody said. Check the lug taper. Some wheels use 60 degreee taper some don't. This mistake happens often.

well it IS the stock lugs that are involved, so i'd assume (i know i know, never 'assume') that they are correct.
plus it's only been the rear wheels that they are breaking on

Periodic inspection and tightening are expected with any wheel, on any car, and in any situation.

Yours sounds extreme but I would start checking every other week and extending the intervals accordingly.

I always follow the Star Pattern, so I go the opposite side of the starting lug. Having a impact helps but a good, firm hand works too.

yea, i'm thinking during the cold season i'm just going to have to bite the bullet, bundle up, and do the check on em.

Are they stock lugs? Maybe their pitch is off.

yup, stock lugs, stock steel wheels.
during the warm months i am finding that i need to tighten the "aftermarket" ones about once a month

I DO NOT check the lug nut torque, except on infrequent occassions.....before trips, when I have the car on the lift for other maintenance, etc......and of course it is reset when I rotate the wheels on each oil change.

I have NEVER had a lug out of torque. So, is that unusual??

OK... are you torquing to inch pounds... or foot pounds? You have a bizarre issue on your hands. Go tell a dealership to figure it out lol.
