Low key fob battery

Just got this message on my DIC. Does it mean my beeper battery is low, or is there a battery in my electronic key? Those things are expensive so I am hoping there is only a chip in it which does not go bad. But, how would my car know that the battery is bad in the key fob???

I think it's the key fob battery.

There is no battery in the key itself. You just need to change the one in the remote. It's somewhat of a simplication but the system can actually 'read' the strength of the battery signal and know when it weak enough to need replacement. It's a CR2032 disc type battery fairly easy to change.

X 2 Get thee to a Radio Shack or someplace that has batteries, its a five minute job at best and you'll be good to go once again.

Thanks for the replies.

The back story is funny. Months ago one of my fobs stopped working. I checked the battery and it appeared good. I figured it needed to be recalibarated and left it in my car for the next time I went by my dealer. Then, yesterday, after I went to my local hardware store to buy a few things, including 2 batteries for the family thermoscan thermometer, I couldnt get back in my car. I used the key in the lock, then had to put it in the ignition to stop the horn from honking (primitive factory alarm). I went back into the hardware store, opened the key fob, and found it was the exact same battery as I just bought for the thermoscan. I bought another one and changed it when I got home (but I may have mixed it up with one of my old batteries).
