Motor mounts

I stopped to fill up this morning and saw another HHR and decided to chat a bit with them. Asked them what problem they had, and they said was the flex down pipe, or rather the motor mount(s) that caused the flex pipe to break. I got to thinking, even though I do not have this problem, how hard is it to change the motor mount(s)

The mount that you will want to change, is the at the front of the engine and pretty easy to change. If you get one from TTR it will really tighten things up.

Yes. Very easy to change. Once you get the washer fluid reservoir out of the way, there is plenty of room to do the swap. Only 3 bolts, 2 nuts. Just have to have a jack under the engine to support it in place as you R&R the mount.

This pic shows the TTR front mount.

The 2 other (tranny mounts) are easy also. There is also a solid engine to tranny mount, also easy.

I am going to change mine also. Not sure if the left mount is one solid rubber piece but there is definitely either a seam or rubber is cracked in about the middle of the side. Just looked under engine, do you support engine with jack and wood on the front flat part of engine? Tapped on it, seems rather thin?

Thanks, Dave

The rubber is not solid, there are holes in it.

Just put a 2X between the jack and the oil pan. You won't be supporting much weight, unless you try to jack the entire car up. Total weight of the engine/trans is around 500 lb. and most of that will already be supported.
