OEM oil on 2011

My HHR is 2011 regular LS with a few extras metalich red ! I love red . All my life I been buying new cars and dumping the orignal oil after a 1000 miles and thats what I did this time .

My ? is did anyone else do this or am I just old and didn't need to do it . I also change all my oil at 3000 miles all ways have all ways will DIC is well for the oil kina not for me . IF its not a lease I bought my HHR so it got waxed as soon as the weather got right in April and changed the oil at 1000 miles to get the break in oil outa my new sled . Put a made in USA oil filter in it STP brand made by I think that company in Ohio who makes a LOT of the USA made filters fiorget there name .

Not that it matters but I put MB 1 in it ! I only put about 7 to 800 miles a mionth on it but I will change it every 3K or 3 months what ever comes first . I figure its cheap Insurrance as I tend to drive the ones I buy 200K + my 2000 Gallant is at 157K burns NO oil and runs perfect :O)

You didn't need to do it.

Cars today don't have break in oil. Changing the oil every 3K miles is just a waste of your time and money.

You drained semi-synthetic oil out. To keep your warranty intact you need to use Dexos1 oil or an approved equivalent or straight synthetic (Mobil 1). Changing every 3K is OK if it gives you peace of mind, but it's really not necessary.

change oil

I change my oil with Mobil 1 about 3000 miles as my driveing is mostly about town stop and go I put on about 5000 miles a year, so about 2 times a year for less than $75.00 sometimes will change at 2000 miles as in the summer the temp is over 100f.

Agree with ALL the above comments!

Also, if you are really interested, you replaced a good filter (Delco) with one (Fram) that is generally considered to be of less quality and filtering capacity. But it PROBABLY will not matter with 3000 mile oil changes.

I drive my car every day, 50 miles or so. I used to change every 5000 miles on my 95 Riv N/A. It was always super clean and I felt like I was wasting money changing it so soon

In my Cobalt SS, I changed it at 3000 for the first change, and followed the DIC after that. It would net me nearly 7000 miles. Drained it out, looked about right to change, not too dark, not too light.

My new HHR, I changed the oil at 1000 mi for the first change. It was on the lot a year before I got in... why not.

The second change happened at 6500 mi and my DIC was at 39%.

GM put a lot of money into this DIC system. I trust it enough. I'll never change any later than 7000 mi.

Synthetic is too expensive to waste at every 3000 mi and is a LOT better at maintaining protection than older natural styles.

I put Agip 10W60 in my motorcycle. After 2000 miles, its so clean you swear you want to drink it. Dark oil usually means there is a lot of garbage floating in it or that its breaking down. Too clean can be alarming. My Duc is in top shape.

I am about to do my oil.... THE BEST I have found in ALL the research is AMSOIL 5w-30 or 0w-30, a good USA filter NEVER EVER A FRAM... Found that some of the best are Wix, and delco (if you can find made in USA) AMSOIL can go up to 20k or 1 yr.... it a little more $$ than the MB 1, but it TOTALLY out performs it... RESEARCH!!!.. the internet is a great tool
