Oil change Question
Here I go with the old oil change game.... EVERYONE has there own opinion on this and I respect all of them...
I am running full syn AMSOIL 5w-30... It now has 12,500 on it. the DIC is down to 1%....
Should I just change my filter, and go another 5k(Amsoil say I can go 25K with normal wear)...OR should I do a full change....
THOUGHTS... AMSOIL dealer input??...
I average about 400 miles a week, mostly highway, mixed traffic....
Thanks all and GOBBLE GOBBLE

AMSOIL has been proven to be good , but why risk it .. you already got 12,500 out of it .. most people still change at 3500-5000 .. so you more than doubled your cost ..
I would personally change the oil and filter every 10,000k with AMSOIL .. and if you have a SS with a turbo, i wouldnt do more than 5-6000 miles

I've been running Mobil 1 since I bought the HHR new in 06. I've driven as much as 11,000 miles between oil changes. I just changed mine last week after 8600 miles along with the filter, but switched to M1 High Mileage. I had about 40% DIC reading, but I felt ambitious and 90+K miles on the car.

I was told by my Chevy dealership that you should not listen to the oil life % on the dic and to change the oil and filter at a max of 5k miles. They claim that if you got too long without an oil change that it will dry out gaskets.....Donno how accurate this actually is.

The dealer it totally off base about gaskets drying out due to lack of oil changes, what they should have said is that by over extending oil change intervals you stand a chance of coking up the oil passages in the turbocharger and ruining the bearings.

Ya I figured it was total bs. My first oil change was free and this is what they told me when I rolled in there with 8k miles on the original oil. My own rule is to change the oil when the dic reads 30%, just for a little extra assurance.
