hey everyone HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!

I have a question. couple of weeks ago i notice an oil leak under my HHR. i finally got to look and here is what i see.

from under the engine at the connection to the tranny:

what do you people think??

it seems more of a leak then just the cam cover. is there anything else that this engine is prone to leak from??

 

oh yeah i should state that it is a 2006 2.4l with about 70k. but you people should be able to tell by looking at the pics right??? lol

 

I'd check the oil pressure sending unit it's just above the starter

And the filter cover, and the person that changed the filter last may just be sloppy.

Oldblue - i was thinking that way because on the old sbc was normally the culprit as well. wasnt sure if they had one on this engine nor where to even look. that is my first thing that i will do. seems easiest and cheapest!! THANKS!!

donbrew - i know i can be messy but in this case it is super clean!!! but i will make sure that the cap is snug. well on second thought this is the first thing that i will do. THANKS!! i hope it isnt my fault...

 

Mine developed a leak at the filter housing. It was tight, but the gasket had not been replaced as it should every time the filter was changed. Gasket got old and hard and started to leak shortly after last oil change. Bought new filter again and installed new gasket...problem solved. Even the oil change guy at the dealership gets lazy some times or just a new hire learning how to do it.

 

The oem green gasket actually lasts a long time.get it online or at the dealer. I don't want to start a debate but you really don't need to change it every time you do a change.

 

You are right, but it seems "they" the dealership had not replaced it in years of service. I only let them do it because it was part of the "deal" when I special ordered the car back in late 2007....lifetime free oil changes.

 

Lifetime? I bet they never expected these cars to last so long!

 

I wonder just how many of those new O-rings out of the box you would find in the trash at a dealership.

I had one of those lifetime oil change deals on a Toyota P/U; after the 20th change they started making it impossible to deal with. First they insisted it had to be done at exactly 3,000 mile intervals, even though the Owner Manual said 7,000. Then they started making getting a mandatory appointment impossible, then making me wait for them to finish the drive ins. Not even mentioning all the crap they tried to sell me.
