There is no such thing as a free lunch or oil changes ! Just an opportunity to sell you something else.

ok, took off the starter and noticed that the sending unit was dry:

looked in the hole for the starter at the flywheel was all dry:

appears to be my pan:

anything else i should check??

 

Looks like it's coming from this huge hole to me. In other words; the starter isn't mounted tight enough?

 

Give that area a spray of brake cleaner, and snug the pan bolts , it looks like run off from oil filter changes!

 

donbrew --- hmmm oil resides in the flywheel area??? those bolts were incredibly tight. i will retorque them tho.

old blue --- after the retorque or actually first i will just clean off the area. i lean towards the oil pan gasket. i will retorque those as well. the leak seems quite a bit more than over flo. is there a place on these engines for the oil from runoff to pool until it tilts/shifts??

does anyone know if these pans are hard to do?? ive done chevy 8's buick 6's dodge slant 6 they werent that hard just too many bolts!!!!

 

Oil pan is relatively easy, no gasket just RTV silicone. Per

Don't forget to gently remove the old gasket material from both the block and pan!

 

87z16 - no, oil does not reside in the flywheel area.

 

However, the rear main crankshaft seal does.

 

And oil will take up residence if the rear main starts leaking!!
