certain powertrain related codes cause the transmission to go into limp mode... IE the hard shift you experience I'm guessing from first to second like its bucking into gear. My guess is it's gms way of scaring customers into running to there dealer, or to force them to not ignore the light.

Yes.
Get the CEL number and post it up in this thread. One of the mysteries of these little cars is which CEL's trigger the transmission hard shifting issues.
I guess GM likes to keep their automotive computer programs a secret.

Mine hard shifted for a lean code but didn't do it when I had a pending misfire code.... Which I think would be more dangerous to the car. Who knows. GM is funny

Maybe the TCM harness got disturbed when you placed the funnel into the full hole.
Check the ground wires and the TCM harness.

ok, the codes, reader says 2:

P0010 Camshaft position actuator circuit (bank 1) circuit malfunction
P0010(pd) Camshaft position actuator circuit (bank 1) circuit malfunction

but it seems to be point all to CPS so i may have broken it when i took out the starter??

it appears that there are 2 on this engine, one for each. i guess bank one is the front one???
