P0014,0016,0017 AND 0128...HELP Needed.

Hi Guys,
Long story short: My son was topping off oil instead of a regular flush/filter change for at least 3 cycles.

HHR Stalled. Towed home. Code read the following P's: 0014,0016,0017 and 0128. Inspected sparks, tips were covered in oily sludge. Inspected intake and exhaust solenoids, vents covered in oily sludge and metal shavings. After changing oil and filter, I also have done the following: change spark plugs, change intake and exhaust solenoids. The car now has a clean crank, but dies immediately after turning over. Are there any relays/fuses I need to volt test to go along with the mechanical replacements I've done so far? Also, is there any other steps for the intake and exhaust solenoids so that the car computer 'relearns' their position? As a side note, I have a replacement Thermostat to address 0128 code, but my friend says even if the coolant thermostat is stuck open that won't affect the car starting. Any pointers woould be great. Thanks all

P0128, install an AC Delco 131-158 180 F degrees thermostat, others do not open in the time tge ECZm is looking for.
Change the coolant with fresh Dexcool 50/50 premix , you can mix if you want but it’s just easier premixed.

P0014 change the VVT solenoids

P0016 indicates the timing chain is off a tooth or two, stop trying to start the HHR you will damage the valves and possibly pistons .

P0017 is a camshaft position sensor code , it’s the sensor doing their job telling you the timing chain is not in the right position to align the camshafts to the crankshaft.

So the main point is do not turn the key until you have replaced the timing chain.

I would look at the timing chain. P0016 & P0017 mean that the timing chain has a problem. If there is slack between the sprockets it needs to be replaced. I suspect it is broken don't try turning it over until it is checked.
Don't blame the kid, it is normal wear & tear.

Thanks to both replies. Dumb Question- Can I get to the chain without lifting the engine out .
