I have a 2007 LS with 33,000 miles on it that I just recently changed the thermostat and coolant on. I have received many questions regarding the drain plug bolt so I would like to address them now.

First, I learned where the drain plug bolt was located by going to the parts department at my local Chevy dealer and asking them if there was one. They told me there was one and gave me a computer prinout free of charge. They do this for me any time I have a question.

The radiator drain plug is a black, plastic, threaded, bolt that is approximately 1/2 inch in diameter and 1 1/2 inches long. It is located on the passenger side of the vehicle, at the bottom of the radiator, close to the corner. The head of the bolt has fins on it that allow you to loosen it by turning it counterclockwise with your thumb and forefinger. It comes completely out of the radiator and is reinstalled by reinserting it with your thumb and forefinger and turning it clockwise until it is tight. No sealing washer is used or necessary.

Againk, thanks for the info. Someone over at GMI stated that from about 03 on, GM stopped using drain plugs for the radiator and what looked like a plug was not removeable and would damage the radiator. WHen I do mine soon, I would have checked that, or just dropped the lower hose. Much cleaner job if you can use a drain.

 

The "butterfly" (style) plastic drain bolt is the same as my 98 S-10 was.

I would not use any pliers or other tools to loosen..
