Timing chain

Im doing the timing chain on my 06 2.4 next week. I realized today that the transmission is in park. I will need to rotate the engine to bring the no. 1 piston to top dead center. Will I be able to shift the auto trans into neutral with the battery disconnected or am i going to have the battery connected?

What do you do while warming the car up in your driveway?

Torque converter? Not clutch.

You have to jack up the HHR to change the timing chain, you can shift into neutral, or just turn the crank clock wise.

Yep. I know the procedure. I had put a towel over tge hatch latch when i disconnected the battery cable but it must have moved when i closed the hatch because the hatch is partially locked now. I was hoping i wouldnt have to crawl back there to hookup the battery. Oh well im still pretty limber at 67 😁 I can do it

Why would you bother doing anything with an automatic? The torque converter decouples or you couldn't start the car in park.

The OP was asking how to shift the car into neutral so he can rotate the engine to TDC on plug 1.

Don correctly stated that the engine can be rotated all you want with the trans in park. No need to do any shifting, the TC will let the engine freewheel.
