Pretty cool, I can see one of those with flames etched into it and edge lit with orange LED's.

If it's a newer twinkee HDs', they are like an oven..

Kurakyn* does make a crotch protector (heat shield) from lexan to protect the jewels.
But I know over time those warp.. Too much heat from twinkees..

The reason they use Dark tinted lexan poly, is it yellows quickly & later will warp..

I'll stick to my older HDs'

Harley is air cooled..ALL the heat rolls off the rear cylinder in that area..especially is slow/no go traffic...great in cold weather though.....

I'm hoping that since the Lexan is not directly over the head, and it gets plenty of air past it (due to engine pulling air in) that it will be fine. I ran the half cover for a few days just to see if there would be any immediate issues. If the full cover does warp, I'll either just run with no lid or put the stock lid on if it is hot out. I'm not planning to engrave or light it until it has run for a while. I like the flames/orange light idea though.

The melt point on Lexan is 310º degrees. If you have temps that high up by your intake, the ABS Plastic intake box would melt first. ABS does not have a true melt point as it is an "Amorphous Plastic" but gets soft at 174º and starts to come apart at 221º. Lexan should be fine on top of the intake in the long term.

The rear cylinder on my H-D FXDLi regularly gets into the 285-310º+ range in the summer months, It'd cook a Lexan shield in pretty short order. Yay fuel injection to meet emmision standards! The bike is like an oven! My carbureted sporty stays nice and cool.

Good info.

my H-D FDXLi ?? Ya mean FXDLi right ?

I agree about the twincams being ovens..There is a lawsuit about riders getting burnt.. H-D is gonna have to go water cooled to meet EPA by 2015..

They already have a patent (2011) on water cooling for twinkee heads..

I'm sticking to my carbed evos & flatty.....
