Carbon Fiber HOOD!
Any weight reduction is good. Just if you do, you must keep it balanced. Plus the hood is classified as top weight, as its higher than the center of gravity, so therefore can help improve handling. Right?:)
Actually just to clarify the subject a little bit it's not the carbon fiber that breaks down but it's the epoxy. Epoxy breaks down under UV light, but there are some companies that have special clear hardeners to limit the effects of UV rays. The best way to combat it is to apply a quality clear coat finish over the part.
There are a few old carbon bicycle wheels out there that are "yellowed" and it concerns me. I certainly don't really want to be riding on those!
Andy,

Andy,
That is correct on the epoxies breaking down..I happen to be working on a '
"plastic" airplane and its critical that no exposed surfaces be allowed to happen. And the materials are much thicker and much better, but then it goes thru some harsh conditions.
Also, where they mount to the hinge brackets you'll want to put a layer of sealer between hood and bracket or you will get some interesting results later on in the form of corrosion.

The funny thing about this topic is that I looked at my hood the other day and said "wow....now that would be a lot of carbon!" lol.
I'm not sure the fiance would like me moving her car out of the garage so I can build a mold!
