Common bowtie issues?
If I remember correctly, GM says the delamination is caused by car wash soaps that contain some type of specified acid (usually found in the self, auto and total clean car washes). They do the first one free (if under warranty) after that, it's your $$$$.
There is a TSB on it.
I did have mine replaced just before the 3 year warranty. But the rear one has started the process again.

Considering that no other parts have issues from these chemicals in the soaps that many many many cars are being cleaned with, I would lean towards faulty part/design no matter how blue in the face GM wants to get.
Ok stupid question but are you painting from the the inside,or are you saying to take off the bowtie and paint it from the outside. Also what type of paint are you using?
Paint from the outside. The plastic is amber colored, that's where the "gold" comes from, so color choice would get tricky if you tried to paint the backside. Also trying to make it adhere via the paint on the back side without mucking up the paint would be hit or miss. My back one fell off so I painted it off the car and glued it back on. My front one I painted in place, careful masking will keep overspray off the rest of the car with no problem.
Any autobody type paint with a clear coat over the top will be fine. I used a Krylon purple with a Dupli-Color pearl and clear coat over that.... Two years later and they both look great. Just do a proper prep, dry, polish routine just like any other autobody work.

That be the one I was mostly refering too as it is the one I want. Did you get the raised edge or the smooth edge one? I think I like the smooth one myself but both styles look good.
