Heated Mirrors
After a search I got this reply from Muth Signal Mirrors....
Thank you for your inquiry!
You commented: I'm looking for heated and turn signal mirrors. I do have power mirrors now but the HHR does not come with heated mirrors with turn signals. Can a custom mirror be made? I'll worry about the vehicle wiring.
Yes, we can produce a kit via our SignalŽ Mirrors on Demand (S-MOD) program. The price for the kit is $219.00 for unheated and $269.00 for heated. Lead-time is up to 10 business days to produce the kit. To place your order or discuss the process in more detail, please call us at 800-844-6616. You may speak with anyone who answers the phone.
Sincerely,

aftermarket heated mirrors
I just got off the phone with Chris at the company noted in the last reply. His company's big thing is not heated mirrors per se, but rather a patented in-mirror turn signal. However, he also can sell custom aftermarket heated mirrors by themselves, and may be the only one who does right now. I had never considered signal mirrors, since I get an image of a pickup truck in my mind every time I think of them. To get an individualized "hybrid" kit with heated mirrors, in-mirror turn signals, and having the turn signal embedded in a blind spot mirror on the driver's side, plus wiring, would cost me $317.50 with free delivery and three year warranty against defects. Getting replacement components later costs about half original retail price (of the component, not the whole kit) if someone bashes one (since this is no longer the inexpensive, standard glass). Paid professional installation should take not more than two hours for the mechanically inept like me. EDIT - They have an installer list on their website and local installer would charge $130 to install all of it.
I suggested to Chris that he contact HHR Forum website management about becoming a "supporting vendor." I have no idea whether it would be cost-effective for his company to do. But, he now knows about the site and how an aftermarket vendor can interact with it directly. I also mentioned that supporting vendors may offer a group-buy to encourage business. I told him that since the HHR never came with heated mirrors even as an option, that there is a small but very receptive market for his products here.
Everything he sells can be customized to include or exclude any components, and his company even makes OEM mirrors for at least one GM model. So, you can get any combination of heated mirrors, signal mirrors, signal mirror in blind spot mirror, and with or without the wire and switch setup. $317.50 delivered includes everything. My feeling is that once you start on something like this, you might as well go the full route.
I will now leave it to Chris to talk to management here. My hope would be that he joins as a supporting vendor. I like the product, but frankly am holding off any potential purchase it in hope that he will join the site and offer a group-buy discount price.

Latest information on MUTH heated signal mirrors
Hi Harlan,
Yes, I am familiar with that mirror as Velvac is one of our customers. I don't believe it is one we can put a SignalŽ feature into because of the design...
I can have our tech review the HHR mirror to see if it's possible to "cheat" the SignalŽ feature down to where it would be fully visible with the spotter mirror installed. I'll advise you once the review is complete.

Hi Chris,
I believe that beginning about 2010, at least some HHRs came with a "spotter" mirror. This is a quasi-rectangular blind spot mirror that fits in the upper left corner of the driver-side outside mirror. A company called Velvac sells such a mirror as a stick-on retrofit and it's described and pictured on the following web page, as well as in their catalog: http://www.velvac.com/news_prd.htm#3 Their mirror costs about $30 delivered, and is functionally equivalent to an inexpensive, generic circular convex mirror, except its upper and outside edges are the same shape as the external curve of the factory side mirror glass so it's a flush fit. Your blind spot mirrors are not vehicle-specific, but rather are circular in shape like the cheap ones, though yours include the signal technology. I doubt it would be practical for you to produce a rectangular blind-spot convex signal mirror shaped specifically for the HHR, but I wanted you to be aware that this non-heated, non-signal, custom-shaped adhesive mirror exists.
There is one potential way to use this mirror with your setup. Depending on the spotter mirror's size and how much of the signal technology it would cover up, one could get this mirror and stick it on top of your heated, signal, flat glass mirror on the driver's side. It is my understanding that your signal blind-spot mirror does NOT include any heating element, but only the main mirror has it. Therefore, there would be no change in the heating function. The only difference would be that the signal LEDs would now be located on the main mirror instead of the blind spot mirror. Would that be desirable, or even feasible?

Latest update on heated mirrors
Hi Harlan,
Thank you for the email!
We are waiting for a set of the Velvac mirrors to be delivered so we can lay out what we discussed. We ordered direct from Velvac, but it seems to be taking some time to get here... I'll advise soon.

Muth can do it!
"We have evaluated the situation and I can confirm we would be able to offer you a SignalŽ Mirror kit with an optic that will fit below an installed Velvac spotter mirror. (The optic is our new "mini-7" of which I have attached a few pictures so you can see the style. One picture shows it lit up and the other shows a pair of mirrors with this optic under a mirror from a 2003-06 GM full-size truck which uses our large 7 pixel.)
If you would like heated mirrors, we would just need to know if you want both mirrors to be able to have the Velvac mirror installed or if the passenger side would not need to do this."
So, I am getting heated signal mirrors on both sides with a Velvac "spotter" blind spot mirror on the driver's side. I will get it shipped here and deal with an affilate listed on their website who is familiar with installing them. I will keep everyone informed.

Muth is a wonderful company to deal with. I work for one of their suppliers and I can say that the Muth mirrors are first rate quality. I like how they are willing to work with you on this. Great Wisconsin company.
Turn signals, so what! Heated mirrors, yeah!
As I said before, if it were only the turn signals, then I wouldn't bother spending about $400 installed to do this (they gave me about a 10% discount on materials to be the "guinea pig"). The heated mirrors are great since it's the same thing, to me, as having a rear defroster when there's just condensation rather than ice on the glass. It's fun to have a pathway to add an option that was never offered on the car by GM. For my 2LT some things are impossible (independent rear suspension) or not cost-effective (rear disk brakes from the SS). Others, like a rear sway bar or a louder horn, are either clearly needed, quite cost-effective, or both. This is kinda in the middle. It's good to have, and it's not prohibitively expensive. So, since I got a good deal on the HHR to start with (I haven't seen a price since then nearly as little as I paid in January), I figure I have a bit of room to use "play money" for fun and harmless goodies.
