It's ordered!

I just got off the phone with Muth. They were a bit confused on pricing between me and a discussion with member "Lookin" who didn't need the wiring. We are now back to the same $317.50 delivered price as I had originally discussed with them, before we knew about the Velvac mirrors. The kit will now consist of:
1. a flat heated signal mirror on the driver's side, with the signal array compressed to be fully visible in the remaining area not covered by an included (mounted) Velvac "spotter" convex mirror.
2. a convex heated signal mirror on the passenger side, and
3. an "H-mod" kit with relay and switch to control the heated mirrors (the signals will flash automatically with the other signals on the car).

It will take them about a week to make it up, and once here it will cost me another $130 to get their local affiliated installer to put it in the car.

I am very interested in this..... Funny thing is I could care less about the heated mirror. I run Muth Signal Mirrors on my motorcycle and would love to have them on my HHR. The make a big difference with getting seen and lets face it we have one small taillight for a turn signal.

For those that don't know the actual purpose of the signal mirrors is that a driver next to you can see your turn signals even if he is past your taillights. In fact the LEDs are actually angles out slightly to project more light to the side rather than straight back.

turn signals

I already have the LED lights in the back, so my turn signals are a lot better now than the stock ones. I care more for the heated mirrors than the signal in the mirror, but I want any potentially useful option I can get my hands on! Muth can make the mirrors/signals/heaters up any way you want. If you truly find no value in the heated mirrors, then the elements and the switch and relay can be omitted and the setup will cost significantly less. This whole thing is entirely customizable, and originally the plan for mine was to use a larger, round spot mirror with the signal inside that. The signal can't be put in the Velvac spotter mirror, which is smaller than the Muth round convex mirror is, so the plan was changed to squeeze all the signal LEDs into the uncovered area of the main mirror. Muth has been very open to making changes so this can be exactly what I want it to be.

Arrived and complete

It's going to be a few weeks before my HHR has enough "down time" to allow for installation. When it's done, I will take pictures.

It's done!!!!!!!!!!

Cost $195 for labor, and took them over 4 hours. Total cost over $500. The signals work, the heaters probably work (it's summer), and the electric mirrors still work. I had to go back the same day for noise in the driver's door. The overall cost was $317.50 for parts, so $512.50 installed. Was it worth it? I don't know, but it's done!

Picture posted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted a picture of the driver's side mirror to my gallery page, and management has attached it here for me. Thanks for your help, ChevyMgr! This is a flat mirror, with heating element attached to the back. On its left upper corner is the Velvac "spotter" blind spot mirror which is also a factory or dealer-installed option available on recent HHRs (and is also available separately from Velvac). In the lower left is the lighted signal array. The signal array on the convex passenger mirror is larger, since there's no blind spot mirror.
