Or you could rock a Nissan NV, they have a 10' x 6' cargo area. You could haul plenty of boats in there

 

the car i thought of with your description is a dodge journey....but it may look like a minivan i suppose

 

B6/B7 S4 Avant. A german V8 is a thing of beauty, and if you keep your foot out of it you can get 25+ on the highway.

 

hhr + tow hitch + lightweight covered trailer = problem solved..

 

well I'm going to to "roof top cargo carrier" direction... much cheaper... at least in the short term... but not as purty...

I have the factory side rails. just need to find crossbars on the cheap...

I did, but I'm not a big fan of the way the factory cross rails stick up so high... I have been searching the forum to see if there is another set of cross rails that may sit down lower between the rails...and not above them...

so far no luck

I can build model boats.. but I don't have access to a milling machines or any of the really fun tools for working with metals

I have a pair of stock ones on the way so at the very least I can get a close look at the way they mount...
