Running board mounting bolts

I got a set of used running boards, had them painted to match, and now am ready to mount them on the wagon.
One problem though: they did not come with the bolt that mounts the bracket to the body of the car. I noticed that the diameter of the hole on the bracket is smaller than the hole on the car.

Can anyone tell me what is used?
Is there an expanding insert that goes into the body, then the bolt?
What size?

I'd HOPED to have them on this weekend....PLEASE HELP!

IIRC, there is a nylon insert. I think they are re used from the old rocker.

Unfortunately, the only things "in there" were the push in clips holding the lower panel.
nothing to reuse :'(

I know that NAPA has a book full of fastener samples.

There seems to have been at least 3 designs used for mounting.

Don nailed it, the running board fasteners did change during the run of HHR production.

For the exact OEM fastener part numbers for your '06, click the link below and pull up the parts breakdown for your HHR.

I looked on that site, and can see what's needed, but it's not listed!

I'm thinking about just getting some self tapping screws to take the place of (number 4 on the diagram) them.

I would put a plug of silicone in the holes to prevent rusting, if I cared enough.
