I'm confused (easy to happen BTW) are these pipes functional or just eye candy ? I ask because you had them installed at a muffler shop....

I'm sure Sindy has hers for show like the rest of us. Like any lake pipes they can be made functional, however on these triple outlet pipes only the end outlet would be functional since the other two are dummy outlets. I know I get a lot of ribbing for having these on my HHR and not functional. But if you've been around as long as I have you would know that a good number of lake pipes on older hot rods were only for show as well. Most were done like this because they didn't want the hot exhaust to discolor them. And even if they were hooked up they would most likely still have the duals out the rear since the lakers were only uncapped for racing since they were usually hooked in before the mufflers.

sindy, gotta question for you.

I'm planning on lowering mine, I've got 16's, with the lakes added, what's your clearance like?

I've got a lot of scrapers around my town.

Trying to figure out if I should do one or both and if one which one. I'm really wanting to lower it but the more I see the lakes....well, I WANT!

I'm sure every HHR might be slightly different.
This is my measurement... 3.75"
from the floor to the lowest point on the pipe.
I have stock 17" and Gold-Line springs.
I havent hit anything yet, I do go slow over suspect bumps/dips though.

I'm sure SoCalHHR's can anwser more specific technical questions much better than I can though.
I hope this helps.... if ya need another image, I can do that in a jiffy!

Thanks, Sin.

If I had to, I could tell what was in that pic. Those who can't do, pay others to do for them!

Luckily I got a nieghbor hood shop that loves doing stuff like this!

And I'll definately be talking to Mike before I do anything.

I'll speak up because Sindy has 17's - not 16's. The 16's sit a bit lower. With 16's your HHR will have 3.5-inches from the bottom of the Lakes to the deck when lowered with Gold-Lines. Olnt 3-inches from the bottom of the tips! Speed bumps must be scouted out in advance...high angled driveways - don't even think about it.

I drove mine for 4 months lowered with 16's and lakes, then switched to a taller tire to gain a bit of height.

If you're a die-hard scaper freak like me, it's not nearly as bad as some cars.
If you're faint of heart when you hear the Lakes scraping - it's not for you.

BONUS: Actually the Lake pipes have a nice rounded bottom on the tips - this is the main point of contact when scraping. Since it is smooth and rounded, very little damage is ever done.
