So I just got in from finishing this project that I've wanted to do for about 4 years now... Replacing the seat cover in my truck, to a factory looking cover. Since my dad owned the truck he's had a cheap Walmart cover over a torn green vinyl seat out of the '79 GMC he had before my truck that he scrapped. I've wanted to do this, but the cover is over $200, so that was holding me back.

Well finally, I decided to go for it. At first it was intimidating, and I even went to a lady my dad used to work with who reupholsters furniture. She showed me how to do it and instilled confidence in me... I must say, it was very easy!

And this is the final product!!!!




Needless to say I was very happy with the results! It's a good feeling to be able to step back, and look at something you've done, and smile.

Good work...... I take it the original foam was okay, or did you have to add some?

Thanks guys! Yeah, the original foam was almost perfect (discolored some, but still there). The seat is so dang comfortable anyways we didn't want to risk anything. We did put a sheet of wool down on the top of the seat bottom...the lady who upholsters things suggested it because there were a few wrinkles on the bottom sides, so that raised it up enough to tighten it up and smooth it out.

Sad thing is, I got a grease stain on it already....

Sleeper- Luckily the cover came with hog rings and a pair of pliers, so I was all set there. My dad used to work at a furniture store, so I think we have some sitting around somewhere too. As for the dash, I'm not 100% sure of it's story.... I bought it at a junkyard in Flint about 4 years ago. It was a place where they already take the parts off cars, so I don't really know where it came from. It was unpainted still...but it didn't look like a reproduction, so I was wondering if it's OEM, NOS (which I doubt) or a GM replacement. You can tell it hadn't been sitting in the sun or anything, because it's still soft and feels new. Either way, the guy at the desk had no clue what it was worth, and sold it to me for $20! Painted it, and good to go! The original was all cracked and faded. Next I want to paint the door panels, and just about the whole interior will be fixed!
