I have not yet no. I tried the 10 minute routine once but not 3 times in a row. Also like I said the security lock light doesn't stay on or even blink it's only on for about 15 seconds while the system is starting up.

A friend mentioned that the BCM could be bad now. I may have located a few between the price of 40 and 120 bucks. So before we go to the dealer we may end up just swapping one of those in. The dealer charges 80 dollars an hour for diagnostics so probably going to end up doing everything we can to keep it out of the dealers garage.

I was curious though if we use a BCM from an 06-09 HHR or Cobalt would it need to be reprogrammed? I'd imagine they would be setup exactly the same and I know the Cobalt has pretty much the exact same engine, ecu, and rest of the system as the HHR and the BCM is the same as well.

I'm trying the 30 minute reprogram thing now though. I think it's not going to work though as there is no security light on.

Is your car out of warranty? Yes the BCM will need to be programed! Just looked at your profile you have a 08 it must be still in warranty !!!

Just the fact that the factory security system doesn't protect against people breaking your glass and reaching in to steal 3k dollars worth of gear :) Yeah we've been thinking about just calling the dealer.... It does have the factory warranty but supposedly that only covers engine/transmission. I'd imagine they would call this an electrical/computer problem. Or maybe it covers more then the engine/transmission.

If the BCM is from another HHR why would it need to be programmed? I guess I don't fully understand how the BCM works.

The bumper to bumper coverage is for 36,000 miles he's at like 36,180. Would they still cover it? I have a feeling they would say no.

Well he talked to the dealer he got the car from and the guy that sold it to him said that since it's certified used that the bumper to bumper warranty goes until 45k miles or something like that. So just going to put it back together and take it in. They said that if for some reason it isn't covered under warranty that we wouldn't be charged for diagnostics.

Great you have a warranty.

There is one of your prior questions I can answer: Many of the electronic modules on your vehicle have the VIN programmed into them - simply changing the BCM from one vehicle to another will not work without programming. This applies to a new BCM as well.

Good luck. I would be interested to hear what they find you did wrong!

Moral to this story. When you call a dealer about a problem you may or may not have caused, the less you say the better...
