2006 hhr 2.4 no cluster power

Sons car…wrecked and now trying to put on the road, instrument cluster no power..
car cranks, headlights, interior lights all work…checked the cluster fuse and the ign/? Fuse, both good ….no power at cluster harness on red/white wire from the interior #7 fuse, only power from the #16 when key is on position. Both fuses good, although now he tells me the #7 interior fuse has blown repeatedly….
i am a woodworker, not a mechanic or electrical so have mercy on my ignorance .
question1:
does the red/white power wire run to the cluster have a short?
question 2:
is the any way to bench check the illumination of the cluster while it’s removed from car?

You are losing 12 volts somewhere. Need to trace where it gets lost.

Ty…do you know if the power at interior fuse for cluster goes directly to the instrument cluster or is routed somewhere else? Then if so I really just need to inspect that wire from that point to the cluster looking for a break or damage?
any idea on straight wiring the cluster to illuminate?

If #7 is blowing the red/white wire is shorting somewhere. See if it blows when unplugged from the I/P, that will narrow down if it is in the cluster or the wire.

If you replace the cluster it needs to be matched to the BCM in order to display the odometer.

You may have a short in the cluster. Unplug it and see if the fuse blows. No, Need new cluster.
