2006 water pump replacement nightmare

Hello I have been without my car a week as of tomorrow. My roommate took it upon himself to order the part and the special tool which he said AutoZone did not have but they do. He finally started the repair today says he need to remove the exhaust manifold is this true?
I have an ex that was gonna fix. it bit since he ordered the part kinda tied my hands.
Any help would be appreciated he has already lied about the special tool and since I'm female he treats me like I am stupid well I feel that way anyway.

Welcome, I don’t remove the exhaust manifold to replace the water pump, just the thermostat housing.
some guys think they know what they are doing and get in way over their head.

This will help with the coolant refill

AZ2021,
I consider myself very mechanically inclined and didn't do my water pump.
I believe I know my limits.
Cudos to yours that did.

Sometimes the tool loses some chain tensioner position, time to change the timing and balance shaft chains, or if they are newer, just realign them!

Cheers
