2007 HHR 2.2 ECM Manual Transmission
My engine light came and I went to have codes checked. They tell me I need a new ECM will be 900.00 to replace. Can I purchase from junk yard and install myself? The ECM is the silver box in front of my fuse box correct? I was told the car will not start if I purchase one without having it flashed. Is this correct. Seems like 900.00 a lot of money when I see new ones for 150.00 on ebay. Does the manual transmission take a different ECM then automatic? What years will work on my 2007 2.2 engine? Hate getting ripped off.

codes were PO641, ECM detected the sensor 5 voly reference circuit voltage is higher or lower. Cause 661 Short circuit, 662 Shorted sensor on 5 volt cirruit, 663 Failed ECM. Code PO108 MAP, Cose PO106 MAP
I can buy a new ECM for 100.00 dollars will the car start if I install or not? Where can I go to get the ECM Flashed? I need to start somewhere. I need my car for work. It is currently running but not good.
If you get the proper ECM from a reputable source and make sure its cross checked and matches your engine, it should fire up after installation.
Now here's the big "BUT", you need to make sure the conditions that caused the original ECM to be "taken out" are corrected, if you don't you'll just kill another ECM.
A dealer can reflash the replacement ECM for you, the rates vary so you need to call first so you don't get a surprise.
