I was sorting the missing rear window wiper motor and non-functioning rear window fogger and left the key in the on position for an hour or so. After reading owner's and shop manuals came back and all was dead. Couldn't even turn the key to off position. Charged the battery for a few hours and all was well. I was lucky to be sitting in the driveway.

Just HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME!!! It is your alternator. Replace it. Good luck!

Guess you did not read the whole thread. It was not the alternator, it was the battery which was replaced and resolved the problem.
