2008 5 spd reverse engagement

Has anyone had problems with reverse not always engaging with the 5spd? Cables etc seem OK and operating the levers at the transmission make no difference. Sometimes it just grinds; 67K miles.

I have not had any grinding problems with mine. Try putting into 1st gear then shifting to reverse. The clutch disc my be sticking to the flywheel a bit.

Seems to me, that if it was a clutch plate sticking to the flywheel, he would have the same problem getting it into first at a dead stop. Could be reverse syncro's are worn, and if it is a plate sticking to the flywheel issue, the synco's in first may be strong enough to overcome it, but not in reverse. Just throwing guesses out here. Long distance diagnosis is always iffy at best.

Dont believe reverse has synchros...which would indicated a sticky plate..fwd gears are synchro'd so they will compensate for this, sometimes depending on severity you might actually feel a slight fwd tug as it goes into 1st gear.

After the vehicle is parked for a while, sometimes my SS grinds and jumps slightly when I put it in reverse. I just put it in fourth gear before putting it into reverse and that prevents the issue from occurring.

Actually reverse does have synchros, surprising, but true.

Internal Problem (apparently)

I ended up at the dealer who admitted having worked on the trans just before I bought it! They agreed to fix it under the GM warranty (5yrs/100K mi). To date they say they have found broken components inside. Haven't got it back and am hoping to see the failed parts. THANKS all who responded!
