Back in service! Thanks to Reynolds Wrap!

Well, I had the exact opposite problem (locks would work, but unlock would). I read the comment above about putting a little foil behind the button and Viola! I'm back in action. And I was about ready to take it to the dealership for another one. Thanks for the help.

(New to the forum and to HHRs so this is a great resource!)

driver door lock problem

My doors lock fine with the automatic lock, but there are times my key will not unlock the door. So when I lock my car I have to use the lock button but before I close the door I have to check and make sure my key will unlock and then lock the door. If I dont do this I take the chance of the door not unlocking with the key when I'm ready to go. My key fob worked but it broke about 8 months ago, have to get a new one and see if it will solve the problem. Any suggestions on what to check or do with the lock using my key?? Thought of just replacing the whole locking mechanism in the door.

A spray of lube to the lock should loosen things up.
Take your FOB into local auto parts store like AutoZone, or Advance Auto to have it tested
It could just be a broken battery bracket

You could try replacing the fuse with a circuit breaker that will automatically reset. I suspect either one of the actuators is failing, there is some rust or corrosion that makes one or all pull harder or a short in the wiring somewhere. Eventually it will be continuously shorted or one actuator will quit working. In the old days I would put a 20 amp fuse in but it could damage the BCM. You can remove the door panels to check for any problems and lube the linkages with graphite or a molybdenum lubricant.

I assume it is the mini fuse but both types are available.

I may have to look for those. It is the mini fuse and I've placed a 20 AMP fuse in there now and it seems to be working, but if this is a better/safer alternative I'll do this instead. I didn't see these at the auto store I went to, do you know where I can find them?
