2009 HHR 2.2 - Poor Fuel Economy
Hi, I'm getting an average of 17 mpg from my 2009 HHR with 30000 miles & a 2.2L engine. I am an experienced driver & my car is in immaculate condition. My GM technician cannot find the problem. Any body experienced this problem before?

I see your from Canada & a 2.2 09 like mine. Must be pretty cold up there by now. Do you use the auto start? If you do it will suck your mileage dry... 10 minutes of idling every day or more makes the computer calculate in 0 mileage which will lower your MPG...

Welcome to the forum!
Im in toronto and its just getting to the freezing mark here. Every year about this time my fuel economy takes a hit, even more now that I swap on the snow tires.
My summer average is 8.8 l/100km, right now its at 9.4, and I do quite a bit of highway driving. Not sure what that translates into mpg though.

8.8l/100km works out to 26.73 MPG and your current average of 9.4l/100km comes out to 25.02 MPG, so it looks like your mileage is right in the acceptable range there prod.
The formula to convert liters per kilometer to miles per gallon is (1 liter per kilometer = 2.35214583 miles per gallon).

We live in North Vancouver where weather is mild & traffic is moderate at the worst of times. I drive a 50/50 combination of city & highway. The only explanation I could up with was the computer is mistaking gas for Ethanol, apparently when running on Ethanol computer makes the fuel to air ratio %30 richer. I will talk to GM people about this possibility. I hope, I have found the problem.

If a caliper or any brake hangs up just a little you can loose a couple MPG without. The car pulling to one side doubt that's it but just a thought
Is it 10 percent ethanol up there or 15 percent did u put in e85. By chance?

Are actually. Calculating yourself? Or just going by the computer
