You just pull it off as illustrated 3 times above. Don't be putting holes in your roof. Why not just buy some velcro at the local hardware store and stick it in there.

 

I would never put a hole through the roof of any vehicle. There is a piece of support metal up in there I was planning on using. I don't have much faith in velcro. It either pulls off what it's attached to or stops sticking together. I'll give it a try I guess.

 

In my 2008 the sunroof switch thing is not attached to the roof. It consists of an upper and lower part (head liner in between), which are held together by a few plastic clamps. When taking down the head liner a bit, I am able to joggle them loose and take the two parts apart.

 

There are better grades of velcro than what you describe, but they get pricey. Scotch makes one that has an adhesive that holds 10lbs. 3M has a big list of selections of velcros.
You have to look at a few variables when picking one out

• Stem density, that is how much the velcro holds
• Temperature, some adhesives give way when it gets hot, such as in a car parked outside in August
• Adhesive, this is measured in how many pounds it can hold.
