2009 HHR Power Steering Motor

Hi all, just brought a 2009 HHR LT. I have the Power Steering message on the dash. After doing a bunch of reading here it seems to be the power steering motor, i already checked the 2 fuses.

The recall was completed on this car in May of 2014.

I reached out to the GM dealership and they couldn't find bulletin 14119 attached to my VIN, i went in person and shown them all the paper work, he was a super nice guy and was showing me his monitor on what comes back for the VIN, a bunch of other bulletins but not the one mentioned.

As far as I know and read any model that was covered under the recall should have also been covered for lifetime replacement, but what do i know.

Any suggestions?

Here is the issue again - "Power Steering" MSG on the dash, wheel is hard to move.
What i checked
1. Fuse under hood (60amp) - OK
2. Fuse on passenger side (2amp) - OK
3. No other codes via ODB2

Thanks all.

The "lifetime replacement" was an extended warranty... Not a recall.

That being said, I don't know if it applies to all years.

If you have been poking around here you should have come across the complete documents on the subject. I don't have time right now to find them again for you.

To start read this entire thread. There is a lot of useless info along with the good. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gm-r...tension-50057/

Try a different GM dealership, they might be more helpful.

Yep, read that, brought the paperwork to dealer, no dice. He show me the screen with all the other recalls/maintenance items/bulletins and we couldn't find that one.

Has anyone in the last 12 months been able to get this replaced for free?
Or has anyone had this issue where the bulletin did not pop up but was still able to get this done free?

If you had the official document in hand how is it they could not find it?

It is a GM bulletin not a TSB, the NTSB sure knows about it on their website. Your dealership is totally full of it! They are listed "officially" at NTSB as RECALL, but they are handled by GM as extended warranty.

It is possible that your vehicle is a late 2009 not exactly covered, but I don't see a published break date/VIN.

I had the documents in had. They pull up my VIN in their internal system and bulletin 14119 was not in the list.

There was about 4-5 different sections in the screen he was showing, one was recalls where 14115 was present and cleared. Then another section for warranty and this bulletin was not there.

it was my understanding that if my VIN qualified for 14115 then it would also qualify for 14119.

Correct me if i'm wrong here. I will reach out to other dealers, but if they are all looking at the same system, dont think i will have much luck.

Don't hold your breath. ChevroletCustomerService hasn't been active on this site since the last HHR's ran out of the factory warranties.

Now, you may get lucky and get a response but not likely.
