2010 HHR Door ajar light on when all are closed

Just recently the door ajar light comes on every time we start the car and put it in gear and the dome light stays on, on my 2010 HHR. All doors are closed including the hatch. The dome light does not go off after several minutes. If I push the door lock button, it locks all the doors but then unlocks the driver door. If I use the key fob and push the door lock button, all doors lock. The dome light however stays on for several minutes whether we drive away or turn off the ignition and shut the doors. Any ideas?

I would say you have a bad pin switch. The hard part is finding which one.

There are pin switched on each door. If you look at them closely you may see one that has gotten push in out of adjustment.

Or just start at one door and work the switch manually, give it a few vigorous pushes and it will either free up, or feel "crunchy" indicating that it is corroded inside.

If you find the sticking or corroded switch, there's your culprit.

The GM pn for the switches is 22727459 - List Price $15.72 Each.

The same part number fits all four doors.

I hate it when GM tries to make me think that something that is clearly a door is really a jar!

It was worse in the early 80's when talking cars were all the rage, I had a Chrysler rent-a-critter with a sticky door switch. So for a solid week every drive turned into an argument.

"Bong! The door is ajar", me "no it's a door", the car "Bong! The door is ajar", me "no it's a door!.....mile after mile this would go on.

Found it. The drivers side passenger switch looked shorter than the other three. I pulled it out and then pushed it in and the ajar light went off. When I released it, it only came out part way again. Bought one on Ebay with my credits so I got it for free. Now, how do you take the old one out?

best way to figure how thing fit together is to go to the online GM parts site of your choice and look fo the part. Many of the sites have good diagrams and blow ups.
