A/C Compressor wont shut off

A/C Compressor wont shut off
I have a 2010 HHR LT2 with a 2.4
while driving and using the air and the vent set to recirculate
if I turn off the compressor with the A/C switch the light goes out on the switch but the compressor stays running. I have owned many cars
and none of them have done this. Is this normal? I have looked in the manual and I have found nothing on this yet.
I try to get the best fuel economy and it would be helpful if I can have the fan running while the evaporator is still cold.
so far if I turn off the recirulation switch and go to fresh air yes the compressor shuts off but it defeats what I want.
It is at the dealer now and they havent mentioned anything about this yet
and I am sure they will give me a quick answer that all HHRS are like this.
So are they? if so has anybody rewired this so that it is possible
to do what I want?

Thanks I was thinking that is the answer I would get. I like to get as much mileage
as I can out of a tank of gas. it gives me something to do on the way to work.
I used to drive like an Ahole with my Old 04 GTO so its kind of relaxing to cruise
set XM to chill station and relax while going to work. rather than trying to beat my last time to work LOL. People are less scared on the Turnpike now that my GTO is gone LOL.
