Calm down Whopper.. I was saying, I use to go by that myself.. But when I started hearing a funny noise and realized that my oil was basically out, I stopped relying on it. But really, the idea of 'checking your oil at every fill-up is how it should be. We've just become reliant on Technology...

I did not mention OLI message , I mentioned oil pressure sending unit, no pressure, no start!

Whopper (and I) are saying that the OLI never indicated that you were 'good' in any sense for the purposes of what's being discussed in this thread.

And I am saying, if the OLI isn't showing the bottom 25% why should there be cause to check the oil anymore? That's my point. We have become so reliant on Tech, that when it doesn't alert us of oil burn-off of up to 1qt per 1,000 miles as I believe 843de said elsewhere, how would we know.. I had been reliant on that OLI to determine when I need to check it.. But not anymore.

Okay, on that I agree but I've never developed those habits because I spent so much time working on vehicles with less 'technology' over the years so I much of what I do is out of routine rather than reliance on gauges/lights/indicators.

I understand that db/sb. I am speaking to my generation and those in the intermediate ages above me to about 40 or so. We've been so tied in with technology that we rely on it, and when we don't do things like the old fashioned way, we end up SOL and UACWOAP.

I am calm - it just blows me away when one brings the OLI into the thread when it has absolutely nothing to do with the consumption of oil, and the oil level. It's pretty obvious to me that the two things are totally separate issues, and how anyone can think there is a correlation between them really needs a better basic understanding of how their vehicle works.

I know how the car works plenty fine. I am just saying that I use to base when I checked my oil on what the OLI said. Now I do it as often as every fill up, so I never get too low.. All I was trying to say, was that OP should probably check it at fill-ups if s/he is having this problem....

Oh dear, now this is why I have a nervous tic when I see the word "Oil" here.

Whopper didn't mean his observation to be taken as an insult, of that I'm certain.

This thread just strayed into an area that has been beaten to death over eight years, and the OLI is a feature that I'd have deleted from HHR's at day 1. If used and understood from the get go as intended, it's a handy tool for owners.

But if it is misinterpreted, then you get into issues with low oil levels, etc.

Oh man - someone just does not get it. Using it to base when one should check their oil is the whole point I am trying to make - it's totally wrong. And you now understand that, so that's cool.
