So my wife told me her air stopped working so I replaced the blower motor and resistor after checking the relays. I decided to remove the climate control panel after seeing someone mention “melting” inside the plug. While trying to remove the middle plug, I noticed it was wet. After some work I got it off and noticed some melting inside. Why would it be wet? And besides replacing the CCP, what else do I need to do to prevent this issue again?

 

Dielectric grease. Check the ac drain tray for condensation

What, exactly does that mean dear? The car does not get cold. Does the fan blow any air? The car does not get cold. Is the air coming from the vent cold? The car does not get cold.
The always give such helpful observations.

If this is a 2006, has the butyl patch been addressed?
is there a puddle of water under the car when running the AC?
Is the temp dial turned all the way blue? My wife thinks centered between blue and red is for AC.
Is the compressor clutch engaging?
Does the fan blow, but only on high?
Do you know the resistor pack goes to ground?

Yes, the wifeys description was bad, but I could have done better! So the blower motor wouldn’t engage at all. On AC or heat, nothing would kick on. The AC clutch seemed fine when moving by hand. Haven’t notice any water inside the car (besides it being wet just on that plug I mentioned). In fact, we had a big rain storm and I was laying on the passenger floorboard after replacing the blower motor / resistor and it was dry. I will certainly get some dielectric grease and check the AC drain tray. Hopefully after replacing the control panel, she won’t have any issues with this type of thing as long as she has the car. Fingers crossed!

 

There should be a puddle under the car when running the AC.
Open the hood and look at the compressor with your beautiful assistant turning the AC on and off.
Was it water or grease on the plug? I have no idea how water could get there, more likely dielectric grease.
