Then you have the wrong battery in there, it must be vented to the outside of the cabin.
Was that the battery in the car when you bought it?

Well it's an autocraft battery part number 26R-2, it's the wrong battery for this car. Can move battery about an inch and a half to the left and right. Well new battery it is.

Some come with a new vent tube, they are available for cheap if not yours. Series 90 or DIN T5 same thing.

Well installed correct battery last night. Next replace the battery vent tube. The strange thing about driving it this morning was my MPG. Before install of new battery, was getting 23.8 and after install its 26.7.

Random ABS and TC lights on and off, no CEL

I'm seeing these posts about the ABS/TC lights randomly going on and off and a discussion about the battery vent tube. Just wondering if the lights are actually related to the broken vent hose or if the thread just took a random turn. I recently purchased a 2009 HHR 2.2L (130,000) and I'm getting the random ABS and TC lights coming on. I checked last night and the vent hose is broken so I have one on order but I'm not understanding how the lights and vent hose are interrelated as it appears the hose simply vents the gas into the open air under the cargo area.
Background:
I recently replaced the front hubs as one was roaring loud and I was hoping that would fix the random ABS/TC lights but it did not. It did eliminate the CEL I was getting related to ABS (dont recall the number off the top of my head).
I'm consistently getting 35 to 36 mpg all highway driving on a 180 mile commute I make twice a week so the car is running great.
I love the HHR as I brought one in 2008 and it has over 250,000 miles on it and still going. Pretty standard maintenance on it with changing timing chain/water pump, replaced back section of exhaust pipe, alternator, front hubs (twice) and of course the corroded gas lines. Only real complaint is the way the front rotors seem to warp after about 10,000 miles of use (mostly highway at that).

Not directly related. OP decided to put a new battery in, trying to fix the TC/ABS issues. Noticed the broken vent tube. OP never came back, so this story fizzled out.

You have no other codes?

The problem you're describing with the front brakes is often caused by the rear brakes not being adjusted. The rear brakes not contributing to the stopping of the vehicle overworks the front brakes.
