on the controls there are two modes 1 fresh air coming in and 2 recirculating air. the fresh air in button is lite and when I push the recirculating air button that light blinks while the fresh air stays on then the blinking stops and goes off. so I can't turn on the recirculating air. anyone have any ideas about this?

I'll have to dig into the FSM, but I believe that the failure to switch modes and the flashing mode indicator mean you may have a problem with the blend door or its actuator.

 

No, it's normal.
Can't remember the sequence but it's something about the selector has to be in a position that uses the AC compressor(AC or defrost) or something along those lines.
I remember thinking mine had a problem also but saw a thread on this site about it. It was a few years back.
In other words. Recirculation doesn't work in all modes.

 

You're right George, haven't needed A/C or Recirc in either NC or DC for a while now, it's amazing the things you forget.

I prefer the 'fresh' setting, with A/C or heat.

But if I switch to 'recirc' air the A/C turns on.. IIRC..

 

Recerulation mode is locked out when the defrosters are on. The theory is that when defrosting the windshield you want heated fresh air in so that the moist cold air can be pushed out of the passenger compartment.
On the hhr the recerc button flashes to tell you that the command is not possible

Duh!! had the selector switch on floor. put it to vents all is good now..
