Alignment/Suspension toast after collision
Alignment/Suspension toast after collision
Howdy Y'all,
We had a freak, large dump of snow over night and this morning which made travel very difficult. On my commute this morning I was stopped at the top of a steep hill watching the car in front of me go down. I watched him plowed into the curb at one of the intersections. I proceeded down the hill and followed him into the same curb in the same spot. We both pulled over at the bottom to check the damages. It was a good collision that caused everything in the vehicle to bounce up and fly forward. I felt an immediate shutter and vibration but I'm not fully sure it's the alignment or suspension yet (but it probably is.)
I let my car in a nearby parking lot and noticed that when I straightened my wheels so they pointed straight my steering wheel was at about a 90 degree position. I looked over the rim and tire and it has some rash but it is not dented or damaged to any degreee (just surface abrasion.) It looks like the wheel that hit the curb is pushed back a bit. There seems to be a larger gap between the front of the wheel well and the front of the tire on that side.
Has anyone had a similar collision and was your suspension damaged? How bad were damages and what was the cost to repair? In particular if there are any Canadian owners who had this happen it would be great to hear from you because I'm sure our repair rates are different.

Definitely get it looked at. You've caused some significant damage to the suspension from the sounds of it and the car is quite likely unsafe to drive. Depending on your deductible, the amount of damage, and your driving record you may want to work through your insurance... but it will likely count as a collision and raise your rates. Good luck.
