Hey all, I drive a 2006 HHR and we've had numerous incidents in the past with trying to get it to start. We've done the security lockout procedure before and it worked quite well to get me from Eureka back to Lawrence. But now that I'm here, its decided to give me a fuss again. Here are the current symptoms:

• Not turning over
• Showing engine light
• Showed "Power Steering" across message board

To elaborate, I can get into the car, and turn the key to start and everything will clear except the engine light. It makes no attempt to turn over, similar to if you are suffering from the security lockout. Does anyone have any great ideas?

 

Welcome to the site, sounds like a battery issue to me
check the ground straps and have the battery load tested

 

If it was a security lockout the lockout light would be on. That does happen with a dead battery, not a weak battery.

I don't know what you think the security lockout procedure is, but look in your Owner Manual to find that it is simply re inserting the key and turning it on.

Have you had the ignition lock replacement done? I had a similar situation on a 77 Audi Fox years ago and the electrical part of the switch was bad.

 

Sounds like a neutral safety switch or clutch pedal position sensor problem.
